Bahrain Mirror: A cable issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs showed that Bahrain had called on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to take collective action in order to pressure the countries that imposed the arms embargo on the island kingdom, following the 2011 events, including Germany, France, Belgium, Britain and the United States.
The cable published by the WikiLeaks website this week indicated that Bahrain asked to have this request enlisted in the secretariat's agenda, held on March 4, 2012.
"Due to the pressures the Kingdom of Bahrain is facing from several states, among which are friendly states, including a ban on arms exports to Bahrain and its consequences which result in weakening its defense capabilities, Bahrain calls her sister states in the GCC to take collective action towards urging the states that are exerting these pressures, particularly Germany, France, Belgium, Britain and the United States to lift the arms embargo," the cable read.
