Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Scottish Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament MEP, Alyn Smith, welcomed the King of Bahrain's decision to release "leading human rights defender Nabeel Rajab who had been sentenced to 6 months in prison for a tweet criticizing the Bahraini authorities."
Alyn Smith expressed in a statement issued on Tuesday (July 14, 2015) relief "after the Bahraini authorities responded positively to the MEPs' nearly-unanimous call to uphold the freedom of expression in the Kingdom of Bahrain."
The Scottish MP described the Bahraini King's decision as a "positive step" calling for "more progress to be made in this regard." "
The human rights situation in Bahrain remains very critical in general and for the freedom of expression specifically," he further stated, calling on the King of Bahrain "to release all the remaining political prisoners."
