Bahraini Opposition Leader’s Trial Adjourned until Jan. 14

2015-12-16 - 1:18 am

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Appeals Court adjourned the trial of the Bahraini opposition leader and Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Sheikh Ali Salman, until January 14, 2016 for the defence pleading, and ordered the Public Prosecution to hand Salman its plea and court records.

The court rejected the defence team's repeated request to release Sheikh Ali Salman with any guarantee it finds to be suitable.

The local Bahraini Al-wasat newspaper said that the hearing didn't last more than 35 minutes and was held amid high security measures, and also attended by representatives of foreign ministries, adding that Sheikh Salman was brought to court in prison uniform and placed inside a glass compartment set specifically for the accused.

The prosecution sticked to the accusations raised against Sheikh Ali Salman, demanding that the highest penalty be issued against him, while the defence panel reiterated its demand to play the recordings of Sheikh Salman's speeches listed in the case file in court.
