Mother of Detainee: My Son Will Lose His Sight If Not Released to be Treated Abroad

Bahrain Mirror: The mother of detainee Ali Hassan Adam appealed to the Bahraini Ministry of Interior to release her son so that he would be able to receive treatment before losing his sight in both eyes because he suffers from Retinal Atrophy.

Mother of the detainee sentenced to 15 years in prison further stated: "Since 2007 my son was diagnosed in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia of suffering from Retinal Atrophy by 70% in each eye. The results of the tests were sent at that time to Germany, but doctors have confirmed that there is currently no treatment".

"Adam was studying in India, and was arrested when he was returning to Bahrain, even though he was not present during the events Bahrain has witnessed in 2011; he was sentenced to 15 years. He had suffered since his arrest until now from Retinal Atrophy. Recently, I contacted one of the doctors through a relative, and he informed me that there is hope to save the remaining 30% so that he won't to lose his sight, but this must be done within 6 months, which cannot take place now since he is imprisoned," she stressed.

His mother urged the Bahraini officials to release him and allow him to travel for treatment before losing the sight in both eyes, especially that his remaining sight is only 30%.

The detainees in Jaw Prison complained about the deliberate neglect by the prison's administration regarding the health conditions of the detainees. There were dozens of complaints about depriving them of therapy or not allowing entrance of medicines for Jaw Prison detainees.
