Bahrain Mirror: Member of Bahrain Center for Human Rights Safaa Al-Kahwaja said that the university student Jaafar Mohammad Awal (22 years) faces unknown destiny, after he was arrested from his home in the Island of Sitra without legal permission and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department.

Al-Khawaja added "Awal was not presented to the judiciary parties. Neither his family nor his lawyer know anything about him since he was arrested. He only called his family telling them that he is in the Criminal Investigation Department, thus he is now being treated by the security men without a judicial surveillance."

Al-Khawaja explained that Awal is a university student; he studies in India. He decided to come to Bahrain in his summer vacation to see his mother and return to India on the onset of June. "Keeping him arrested will deprive him from his university studies," she added.

Member of Bahrain Center for Human Rights Safaa Al-Kahwaja concluded saying "The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights stipulates that the arrested be rapidly presented to fair and just trial that may order his release if his arrest was illegal."
