Bahrain Mirror: Lawyer Abdullah Al-Shamlawi stated that the Bahraini Court of Appeals did not look into the appeal request submitted by senior member of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society Majeed Milad.

Al-Shamlawi said on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (June 8, 2016) that the Bahraini Court of Appeals did not look into the appeal request submitted by Majeed Milad "although the appeals verdict is considered void since the court did not recite the sentence, pursuant to article 299 of the Bahrain Code of Criminal Procedure."

The authorities arrested Majeed Milad on July 2, 2015 over a speech he delivered. A court sentenced him to 2 years in prison on November 11, 201. A court of appeals; however, commuted his sentence to one year on February 16, 2016.

It is noteworthy that Majeed Milad is a member of Al-Wefaq Secretariat and was one of the members of the delegation representing national opposition societies taking part in the national reconciliation dialogue. He was the head of the Capital Municipal Council for two consecutive sessions before the king decided to abolish the council and turn it into a General Secretariat whose members are assigned by a royal order.
