Sarah Haidar: To the Youth of Bahrain; a Love Letter

Sarah Haidar - 2017-02-15 - 6:06 am

This is a story of a love stemming from a revolution of a nation that conquered our hearts and senses.

To a group of young men and women standing tall as one: we love you. To the young men, whose hearts are beating with fury and chivalry, in protection of their country; to the young women, whose voices are heard in every corner in the world: we love you.

With you, 6 years ago, we learned a new definition to love; an unconditional love that cannot be broken, literally, despite chains, cuffs and sieges.

You raised a new kind of love that went beyond a mother-child sacrifice, and for that: we love you.

We saw you erase any trace of surrender in human definition; you taught us how willing you are to defend your identity, rising to your free will before the whole world.

You taught us that living on the edge, in your love story, is not adventurous and naïve, it is rather brave and marvelous to see people stepping on their ego and swallowing their pride, to save a breed of humans and ethics, which has become very rare to see or view in this vicious and dark world.

In a span of 6 years, our love to you grew, our tears for you dropped, and our hearts to you tingled with shame. You reengineered the idea of "youth power" that was failed to be interpreted during decades-long struggles in societies.

We don't have to be Bahrainis to feel you or touch your pain, it is enough we are human and sane.

You were hit by walls, and you walked right through them, you were stopped by armors, and you bent your way against them. With every drop of blood, a new vein was born, pumping a sense of belonging to your land, your nation, and your people.

You cried your beloved country like any revolutionary, whose peaceful endeavors made history; and although your long struggle is yet to be victorious, it has already made history, and will pave with its voice the perseverance of the youth, one generation after the other.

To our beloved youth of Bahrain, stand firm; you have our voices, words and pens, to defend you until the last breath, until your peaceful revolution rises and prevails, and until you live a youthful life, crowned with dignity, liberty, and peace; come what may.
