Bahrain Mirror: The Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) six Arab monarchies have approved Kuwait's proposal for a common network for food supply safety.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement on Thursday (April 16, 2020) that the competent ministers in the Gulf states discussed the economic impacts of the globally spreading disease on the GCC countries and the food security, noting that there would be more coordinative meetings in this regard.

The ministers decided to approve Kuwait's proposal to create a unified integrated Gulf food security network to achieve relative food security to the GCC states and to assign the GCC General Secretariat to conduct the technical study.

The decision was taken after a video meeting of GCC commerce and industry ministers to discuss the COVID-19 outbreak impact on food supply safety.
