Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The security authorities in Bahrain released late Friday evening (April 9, 2021) 40 political prisoners, according to Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR).
It is noteworthy that the majority of them had only a little time left from their sentences. The releases included prisoners from different regions.
These releases come as part of a list that the Public Prosecution announced to be within the framework of implementing the Alternative Penal Code.
On April 8, Assistant Attorney General, Wael Boualai, announced a new list of 73 prisoners, who will be released under the Alternative Penal Code.
"A timetable has been set up, aimed at implementing the Alternative Penal Code," said Boualai, adding that "within the framework of the actual implementation of that program, the Public Prosecution Office, in coordination with the Sentence Execution Department at the Ministry of Interior, has concluded that the conditions for applying alternative penalties were met in 73 convicted persons."
