Bahrain Mirror: The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society announced that it welcomes the Statement made by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights calling for the release of all prisoners of conscience in Bahrain, and urging an independent and impartial investigation into the death of Abbas Malallah and assessment of the health conditions in prisons that have been witnessing widespread violations.
"We take note of the decision of the Bahraini authorities to release a number of prisoners of conscience following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in prison, and we urge the State of Bahrain to release all prisoners of conscience at heightened risk of the COVID-19 pandemic," said the Commissioner's office on its Facebook page.
"We regret the death of Abbas MalAllah in prison, and call for an impartial and independent investigation in his death, and a re-assessment of the health conditions in prisons to prevent the recurrence of such incidents," the Office added.
