Bahrain Mirror: Recent official data revealed that the number of foreign workers in Bahrain increased by more than 52,000 foreigners in 2022, at a time the government claims the nationalization of jobs.
The total number of foreign workers rose to 583,000 at the end of 2022 compared to 530,000 in 2021, an annual increase of 9.9%, according to a quarterly report by the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, which is responsible for granting expatriates employment licenses.
Ibrahim Sharif, former secretary-general of Wa'ad, described the increase in the number of foreign workers as a "continuous provocation," wondering "What can one say in the light of such news when you have sons who have been waiting for years to find a decent job?"
Noting that "the primary role of the government, as stipulated in its oath, is to "defend the freedoms, interests and property of the people," Sharif stressed that "any government that fails the test of employing Bahrainis has broken its oath."
