14 Complaints of Torture, Ill-Treatment Brought against Public Security Forces within 4 Months

Bahrain Mirror: The acting attorney general and head of the Special Investigation Unit said that "the unit received during the first third of 2023, 14 complaints in which allegations varied between torture, ill-treatment and the use of excessive force by members of the public security forces."
"The unit listened to the statements of 33 complainants and witnesses, interrogated 43 defendants and suspects from members of the public security forces, and referred 18 complainants to the forensic medicine and psychological support division," he said.
He said that "on January 31, 2023, the High Criminal Court sentenced four members of the public security forces to one year in prison and that the verdict was upheld on appeal. On January 26, 2023, the Lower Criminal Court acquitted a member of the public security forces of the accusation against him."
