Bahrain Mirror: On Thursday, May 4, 2023, riot forces stormed several buildings in Jaw Central Prison and beat a number of detainees in their cells.
Human rights activist Sayed Yousif Al-Muhafda quoted prison sources as confirming that riot forces assaulted a number of detainees in wards No. 1, 2 and 3 in building No. 6.
Al-Muhafda called on the Ombudsman, via a tweet, to "investigate and hold accountable those responsible for mistreatment" of prisoners.
Al-Wefaq expressed concern about "the forces' use of violence against detainees for rejecting the prison administration's unfair procedures."
In its turn, the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights expressed concern about "the use of violence against prisoners by security forces," noting that "security authorities impose arbitrary procedures against detainees that violate the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners."
