Al-Wefaq: More than 120 HR Violations in Bahrain during April 2023

Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society has monitored more than 120 human rights violations in Bahrain during April 2023. The society has documented the arrest of 16 citizens, 10 cases of human rights violations, 83 raids carried out by security forces and the deterioration of health condition of detained figure Abdulwahab Hussein, due to the cancellation of his medical appointments.

Al-Wefaq monitored 16 cases of arbitrary arrests, including the arrest of eulogy reciter Abdulamir Al-Biladi for 15 days, and 10 cases of summons against 9 citizens. Ali Mhanna was summoned twice.

In terms of arbitrary rulings, the report recorded one verdict issued by an unspecified court of first instance, against Bahraini citizen Hassan Abdulnabi Hassan. The court fined him 1000 BD.

As for individual violations in prisons, 10 cases have been documented in Jaw Central Prison as follows: 2 cases of torture, 4 cases of ill-treatment, and 4 cases of denial of treatment. The most prominent of which is the case of the prominent political detainee, Abdulwahhab Hussein, whose health condition deteriorated due to the cancellation of his medical appointments, which led to the outbreak of popular protest demonstrations in several areas, demanding providing the necessary treatment for him.

Al-Wefaq has also documented a collective protest case in Jaw Central Prison, due to the prison's not responding to the detainees' demands, in addition to a case of hunger strike by detainee Hussein Hani Marhoon, who started is protesting ill-treatment.

The report recorded 83 raids carried out by security forces in 19 areas, including a raid on a house in Sitra.  Some of the raids have coincided with the protests, most notably in Sanabis, Jidhafs and Daih.

108 peaceful protests and events were witnessed in 30 areas, most notably in Sanabis, Jidhafs, Al-Daih and Damistan. Meanwhile, the regime released 8 detainees on April 16, 2023.
